Council employee arrested for paint theft in Edenvale

The arrest followed investigations by members of the EMPD’s loss control unit.

A council employee spent the weekend behind bars after he was caught stealing paint from the Edenvale roads department.

He appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he was linked to the theft of paint from the Edenvale Roads, Transport and Civil Works Department.

According to spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, the arrest followed investigations by members of the EMPD’s loss control unit.

“Continual dwindling stocks of 20 litre paint containers from the Edenvale depot led to the intervention by EMPD investigators,” Supt Kgasago said.

He added that once confronted, the men led officers to a business in Spruitview where the stolen paint was recovered.

“The arrest of the man and recovery of the stolen paint took place on June 6,” Supt Kgasago said.
