Crime prevention officers from the Edenvale SAPS arrested two men after they stolen a gate motor from a house in the Avenues.
The arrests took place on Wednesday afternoon shortly after the crime was committed.
The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said the two men were spotted driving through the Avenues.
“We ordered the men to stop their vehicle and questioned the driver. The answers the men were giving did not make sense and their vehicle was searched,” said Lt Col Roberts.
He added that a gate motor and several tools were found in the vehicle.
“On further questioning, the men confessed that they had stolen the gate motor and agreed to show police officers where it had been taken from,” said Lt Col Roberts.
When police officers arrived at the house, the gardener working at the property pressed the gate remote and the motor in the car started working.
The men were taken to the Edenvale Police Station for further processing.
“We have reason to believe that the two men arrested can be linked to several other similar crimes in the area,” said Lt Col Roberts.
The same day the two men were positively linked to a case in Bedfordview in April.
