Still no lessee for old Jewish Guild
The old Jewish Guild Bowling Club, in Observatory, remains vacant.

A lessee for the premises has yet to be found.
The club has not had a lessee for years. After the Jewish Guild stopped operating at the premises, the building was vandalised and the memorabilia left behind was either stolen or damaged.
Several people were also evicted from the premises.
The EXPRESS previously reported that a group of people occupied the premises on the assumption that the lease they were granted by an official was legal.
The Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) dismissed an internal administrator after an investigation revealed that a fraudulent lease, for 50 years, was issued to members of a church.
A notice was issued stating that church members were to stop using the facility.
Last year another group of people believed to be operating a church at the facility were also evicted.
According to the JPC the church members were duped into believing that an application was submitted to JPC.
They were given a lease by people who posed as agents of the JPC.
Several other illegal tenants were found on the premises and told to vacate the property.
Late last year the JPC said the bid spec committee would be finalising the content, requirements and standards to be used for releasing the facility on tender. However, to date, no lease has been issued.
In response to an enquiry sent to the JPC recently, Mr Kululwa Muthwa, the chief operations officer, said a bid specification committee meeting was convened and a public tender inviting proposals for any community-related activities on the site was subsequently issued.
“The JPC bid evaluation committee has made a recommendation to the Executive Adjudication Committee (EAC) for an award of the property to the recommended bidder. Once an award has been made by the EAC, the JPC will engage with the successful bidder to negotiate the terms of the agreement and conclusion,” he said.
