Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said several suspects apparently parked in front of the business in Bruma.
They surrounded a vehicle and searched it. They took a handbag and laptop from the car and when security guards approached them, opened fire.
One security guard was shot and injured. A man was arrested in connection with the incident later that day.
