YCPF sector 3 holds meeting

The chairperson, Mr Jerome Correa, handed out a report regarding the objection to the rezoning.

The Yeoville Community Police Forum (YCPF) Sector 3 held its meeting at the Observatory Golf Club on Tuesday, July 15.

A numbers of items were on the agenda for the meeting, including that of rezoning a house in Observatory into a church.

The chairperson, Mr Jerome Correa, handed out a report regarding the objection to the rezoning.

Residents supported the chairperson’s report and the executive is looking forward to being invited by the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) to make oral submissions regarding the objection.

The matter regarding sex-workers was discussed. The Frances Street Committee encouraged residents to take photographs of the vehicles picking up the sex-workers and the Yeoville SAPS will profile the vehicle, as a deterrent.

It was agreed that Sex-Worker Education and Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT), should be invited to the next meeting, with the hope of finding a long term solution for the matter.

Residents reported that they had seen sex-workers consuming alcohol on the street. It was suggested that security companies in the area be considered when trying to address the matter.

The issue of cable theft also came up.

“Residents must ask for a job card from anyone who appears to be doing maintenance in the area. If residents feel unsafe, they must call the police,” said Constable Kenneth Mukwevho, the sector 3 manager.

Illegal dumping was discussed in the presence of a representative from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD). It was suggested that residents should take photographs of vehicles that dump illegally, and a follow up will be made. The next meeting will be held on September 17. @JoburgJourno
