Metro sends former combantants to school

Member of the Mayoral Committee on Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, commended the veterans' decision to acquire skills.

About 51 former combatants in Ekurhuleni will study artisan courses to prepare them for employment opportunities and equip them to start their own businesses.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) enrolled the former liberation struggle fighters to study various courses ranging from Information Communication and Technology (ICT), plumbing, electrical and carpentry.

The municipality signed an agreement with Ekurhuleni East and West Colleges last week for further education and training in Germiston, which will see the veterans commence with their studies on August 18 until December.

The training programme will also provide the participants with a stipend of at least of R2 500 monthly.

Member of the Mayoral Committee on Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, commended the veterans’ decision to acquire skills.

“South Africa needs artisans and I salute you for your decision. I am proud to be a part of the programme. I hope you will protect the integrity and the image of the freedom fighters,” said Clr Siboza.
