Local pools open this spring
Several local pools have opened to welcome spring and cool you off.
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) officially opened 46 of its swimming pools on September 1.
Another 10 swimming pools are expected to open by December 2014.
Delays in opening some of the pools are as a result of the work currently being done on them.
The Ellis Park, Moffat, Malvern, Rhodes Park and Hofland Park swimming pools will be opened.
Murray Park and Newville will remain closed indefinitely due to the severe structural damage.
Plans for the future of the two swimming pools will be determined as soon as the city concludes its ongoing consultation process with all stakeholders involved.
Clr Chris Vondo, the member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for community development, has reassured residents that all the necessary processes are currently underway to ensure that the remaining pools are open between the month of September and December this year.
He called on community-based swimming clubs and residents to utilise swimming pools optimally.
He also appealed to residents to safeguard these facilities against vandalism and theft.
Aquatic facilities will be open throughout the summer season at least five days a week.
