Damaged hydrant spews water

The hydrant, which is in the middle on the road, was damaged by the trucks that use the road.

The ward 118 councillor, Clr Mike Spandino, said he has reported a damaged hydrant to Johannesburg Water (JW), but one week later the water is still pouring out.

“It has been oozing like a river. We lost gallons of water due to this. And when I called the JW call centre, they issue reference numbers but no action,” he said.

He said the hydrant, which is in the middle on the road, was damaged by the trucks that use the road.

Johannesburg Water’s spokesperson, Ms Millicent Kabwe, said there were no records of any faults with that particular hydrant.

“The city was unaware of the problem as it was not reported before. JW has since sent through a team to have a look and repair it,” she said.
