A man has been sentenced to 58 years in prison for killing his daughter and attempting to kill his wife

He was also found guilty of possessing three unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Zakara Mazimbe, from Zimbabwe, shot his 18-year-old daughter and his wife in their house, at the corner of Cavendish Road and Minors Street in Yeovile in May last year.

According to the Yeoville SAPS communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, Mazimbe was sentenced last month.

“He had a fight with his wife in the early hours of the morning. His daughter tried to separate them. He shot her once in head. He then shot his wife several times in the upper body before he hid the guns and fled the scene. Following our investigations, he was arrested at the Messina border post, trying to escape to Zimbabwe,” said Const Malatji.

According to the sentencing handed down by the Palm Ridge High Court, the sentences will run concurrently.

“He was sentenced to seven years in prison for possession of firearms and ammunition, and 51 years in prison for murder and attempted murder. He will be eligible for parole after 30 years in prison,”said Const Malatji.
