Financial crises hits home

Attendees at the event vowed to challenge the department and to also do their best to support the society, which has 300 residents in its care.

Ms Nichollette Muthige has called on members of the public to assist the Little Eden Society.

She was speaking at the annual Christmas breakfast hosted by the Annelise Breakfast Club at Bedfordview’s Mercure Hotel.

Ms Muthige said the society was facing a financial crisis, which was due to the health department’s decision to make subsidy payments one month in arrears.

Attendees at the event vowed to challenge the department and to also do their best to support the society, which has 300 residents in its care.

“This financial year has been hard for us. Members of the public willing to help can do so either in kind or financially,” said Ms Muthige.

Mrs Lucy Slaviero, the executive officer of Little Eden, called on local communities to assist the society.

“I call on our generous, local communities for financial aid during this crisis we are facing. We are hopeful that we will once again receive an overwhelming response from concerned members of the public, friends and well-wishers of the society, as we did two and a half years ago when government did not pay our subsidies for four months,” she said.

Members of the public willing to help can contact the society on 011 609-7246 or visit www.littleeden.org.za
