15 year sentence for business robbery

The Johannesburg high court sentenced Wonderboy Mhlongo (37) and Nkosinathi Mnguni (33) to 15 years in prison each for business robbery.

On Sunday, March 23, Mhlongo entered a shop in Carnarvon Street in Betrams but did not purchase anything.

According to Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the man entered and exited the store several times. The business owner did not think anything suspicious of the activity as he knew Mhlongo.

Mahlongo then entered with five other men. Two of them produced firearms and pointed the weapons at the victim and his brothers.

One of the suspects forced the victim to open the security gate and went behind the counter. He took an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspects fled in a white VW City Golf, which was waiting outside the store.

W/O Munyai said the victim grabbed one of the suspects and prevented him from getting into the getaway vehicle. The suspects fled, leaving their accomplice behind.

The remaining suspect tried to flee on foot but was arrested by an eyewitness. The two suspects were subsequently arrested by the SAPS.
