Book club encourages reading

The Rhodes Park Young Adult Book Club is determined to build a reading community

The Rhodes Park Young Adult Book Club is determined to build a reading community.

The club meets once a month at the Rhodes Park Library.

The club’s coordinator, Ms Khosi Eva Zulu, said members are encouraged to read different kinds of books that interest them.

“We have a theme every month. Members have to read a certain kind of book and come back, review and debate it, during a club the meeting. If the theme is a biography, members must go out and read any biography that interests them and come back to discuss it,” said Ms Zulu.

She said this helps the members to improve their language and broaden their minds.

“Reading improves anyone’s vocabulary. It enables a person to think broadly in different topics in life. For the young stars, it also helps them channel their energies into the right directions. It keeps their minds busy with productive things,” said Ms Zulu.

She added that members can borrow three books at a time from the library.

“Once you are done reading the books, you can come back and take out other books. If you are still reading the books, you can renew the agreement,” she said.

Ms Zulu added that those who want to join the club can go the Rhodes Park Library and join for free.

The next club meeting will take place on Saturday, March 28, at 10am.
