Police, army raid men’s hostel

The SAPS, and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), held a joint operation on April 21 at the Woulhunter Jeppe men’s hostel.

The SAPS, and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), held a joint operation on April 21 at the Woulhunter Jeppe men’s hostel.

Community Safety and other security forces also took part in the operation.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, from the Jeppe SAPS, said 12 suspects were arrested during the raid, which was also attended by the SAPS National Commissioner, General Riah Phiyega and the Gauteng MEC for Safety.

W/O Munyai said 11 suspects were found in possession of dagga and groceries, allegedly looted during attacks on foreign owned shops in Jeppestown.

One suspect was arrested for possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition.The suspects, age between 20 and 46, were detained at the Jeppe Police Station and will appear in court soon.

Police investigations are continuing.
