13 years for possession of illegal firearm, ammunition

A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 13 years in prison for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, police officers responded to a call about a shooting in Jeppestown on November 5, 2011.

“Police officers saw Cabanga Funeka Ngcobo running with a firearm in his hands. When he saw the police, he tried to hide the firearm. When he was searched, a firearm and ammunition was found in his possession. He had no licence for the firearm or the ammunition. He was subsequently arrested,” said W/O Munyayi.

Ngcobo was sentenced on May 13.
