Community response helps nab four thieves

A security guard who saw what had happened chased the men. Members of the community joined the chase.

The community’s reaction attracted the SAPS, which led to the arrest of four armed robbers along Hunter Street in Bertrams on July 3, shortly after 8pm.

The Jeppe SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, said four men robbed a man on Beit Street in Doornfontein.

“They threatened him with a knife and took his two cellular phones. The men then fled the scene.

“A security guard who saw what had happened chased the men. Members of the community joined the chase. Patrolling police officers also gave chase and the four suspects were all arrested,” said W/O Munyayi.

He commended and thanked the security guard and the residents for not looking away when they saw a crime happening.
