"One suspect is in hospital under police guard, while his accomplices are in custody,” said Const Mashakane.

Four men appeared in court yesterday following a shootout that led to the death of a Cleveland SAPS warrant officer.

The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said W/O Sibusiso Ndlovu and his colleague were providing back-up to Jeppe SAPS officers who were responding to a robbery in progress next to the Jeppe Hostel.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning.

She said following an investigation, five men were arrested at the Jeppe Hostel on the same day.

“They appeared in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday. The case was postponed to next Monday, July 20. One suspect is in hospital under police guard, while his accomplices are in custody,” said Const Mashakane.
