Street patrollers celebrate 13 years of dedication

The braai took place at Ms Rita Turner’s home.

Festivity was the order of the day when street patrollers celebrated 13 years of street patrolling in Kensington.

Mr Nicholson Mlandeum was happy to be able to celebrate the hard work they do every day on Arderdeen, Suffolk, Stanmore and Surrey streets.

“When the residents of Kensington asked us to help with guarding the streets 13 years ago, we were happy because we were helping each other. We needed work and places to stay, and we found a way to help each other,” said Mr Mlandeum.

The braai took place at Ms Rita Turner’s home.

“I have been helping the patrollers since they started. They have been like my family, they have made the neighbourhood safe for us and we are happy,” said Ms Turner.

The residents from the area donated meat and other necessities for the braai.

Asked about the challenges they face during patrol duties, Mr Mlandeum said, “We face a number of challenges but we find ways to deal with them as this is a dangerous job. We plan on joining the CPF in the area.”
