Security guard shot at while trying to assist at accident scene

"The occupants of the BMW took the guard’s vehicle and fled the scene."

A security guard was shot at when he tried to help motorists involved in a vehicle collision at the corner of Van Buuren and Kloof roads in Bedfordview. The incident took place this morning.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, a BMW rammed into a Mercedes Benz at the intersection.
“The guard stopped his car and went to the cars involved in the accident. As he was getting closer to the cars, the occupant of the BMW fired shots at him. A shootout ensued. The occupants of the BMW took the guard’s vehicle and fled the scene,” he said.
He was unable to confirm the number of occupants in the BMW. No injuries were reported.
Sgt Nhlabathi could not confirm reports that the BMW was involved in a residential burglary prior to the shooting.
