Business burglaries on the rise

"The most recent incident was on March 30. Even though we have not made arrests yet, we suspect that vagrants are responsible for these break-ins."

Businesses in Sebenza have been urged to beef up security following a spate of business break-ins in the area.

The Sebenza communications officer, Sergeant Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso, said a number of premises were targeted over recent weeks.

“The most recent incident was on March 30. Even though we have not made arrests yet, we suspect that vagrants are responsible for these break-ins,” said Sgt Tsotsotso.

She urged businesses to beef up security and to hire security guards who will man the premises over a 24-hour period.

“We urge businesses, particularly those that are close to vacant land, to install cameras and high walls for their businesses,” Sgt Tsotsotso.

She urged all business owners to tighten up on any lack of security and to not leave their premises without security overnight. Sgt Tsotsotso also urged anyone with information about the break-ins to call the police.
