Police station denies allegation

"We are using vehicles from our crime prevention unit, support and detective service for additional operational support when the need arises."

The Jeppe SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, denied the allegations of a vehicle shortage at the station.

In an email sent to the EXPRESS, the Jeppe Community Police Forum’s (JCPF) chairperson, Mr Zola Dambula, expressed concern and said the shortage of cars is affecting police work.

“There is a serious shortage of vehicles here. The cars are stuck at the government garages and the supply chain management processes are failing the police. It is impacting negatively on the ability of the police to patrol and respond to the residents’ complaints effectively,” said Mr Dambula.

W/O Munyayi said, “There is no vehicle shortage at the station. There were vehicles that were sent for repairs.”

He said police officers are using different departments’ cars when needed.

“This is normal as the community services centre is being used on a 24-hour basis. We are using vehicles from our crime prevention unit, support and detective service for additional operational support when the need arises,” said W/O Munyayi.
