Jeppe police officers fatally shot and killed a suspect who had allegedly hijacked a BMW on 6th Avenue in Bezuidenhout Valley on 10 January.
This comes after a 31-year-old victim, who was sitting in his vehicle, was approached by two armed suspects.
“The suspects pointed a firearm and ordered him to hand over the car keys. The other suspect searched him and took R1 600 from his pocket and ordered him to get out of the car and lie down,” said Jeppe Police Station spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai.
The two suspects jumped into the car and drove off.
“Within a few minutes a police vehicle drove passed and the victim stopped them and told them that he had just been hijacked,” said Munyai.

The police then spotted the hijacked vehicle on Viljoen Street in Bertrams. Police say the suspects tried to drive off, however, officers were hot on their heels.
“One of the suspects, who was seated in the passenger seat, allegedly started shooting at the police. [The police fired back and the suspect] was hit in the head and died on the spot. The driver got out of the car and escaped on foot and disappeared.” The suspect was certified dead by paramedics.
