Police officials arrested four suspects on Heidelberg Road in City Deep after a business robbery on 22 January.
According to Jeppe Police Station spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai, six suspects entered an Incredible Connection shop in Heidelberg Mall, where they pointed firearms at the manager and his three colleagues and ordered them to lie on the floor. “The suspects ransacked the shop and took electrical goods worth about R500 000 and put them in two large bags,” said Munyai.
The suspects drove away in a white Ford Territory, which was reported to Heidelberg police. “Other police all over the province heard about it and started to look for the car. Police officers from the Joburg Flying Squad waited along Heidelberg Road in City Deep and spotted the car at about 1.30pm.”
They stopped the car, and the four occupants were searched. “Upon searching the car, police found two unlicensed firearms and two bags containing the stolen goods from Heidelberg.”
Among the stolen goods were laptops, iPhones, notebooks, Samsung Galaxy cellphones, tablets, Canon cameras and other makes of cellphones. “The stolen goods were identified at the scene. Two firearms with serial numbers filed off, 17 live rounds and two magazines were found.”
The suspects, aged between 38 and 44, were arrested and detained at Jeppe Police Station. Police investigations are continuing.
