Jeppe police nab suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm

JOBURG - A suspect is expected to appear in court for possession of unlicensed firearm.

Jeppe police arrested a 28-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm on Buxton street in Doornfontein on 27 March.

According to the station’s spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai police received a tip-off about a man who was playing with a firearm. Officers proceeded to the given address. “Upon arrival, they found the man fitting the description they were given,” said Munyai.

Officials asked to search him and found him in possession of a firearm. When they asked him about the licence of the firearm he failed to produce it. “The suspect was arrested and taken to Jeppe Police Station where he was charged and detained,” said Munyai.

He will appear in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon while police investigations are continuing.
