Elphin Lodge Knysna collection

Elphin Lodge residents recently joined country-wide initiatives aimed at assisting fire-stricken Knysna recently.

Merle Finch, the daughter of June Branthwaite, a resident of the Rand Aid-run retirement village, offered to take any items donated by Elphin Lodge residents to a collection point.

Staff at the village office assisted by sending an SMS to all residents, who responded by taking donations of clothes, food and blankets to the office.

Merle eventually delivered three loads to the Red Cross. In addition, R2 300 was collected and deposited into the Knysna Disaster Fund.

“The response from village residents was heartwarming,” said complex manager, Helen Petrie.
