Jeppe SAPS arrested a 23-year-old man for rape in Benrose on July 21.
According to Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai, the mother of the 12-year-old had gone to fetch her from visiting her aunt.
“Upon arrival, the mother of the victim noticed that the child was in pain while walking. She asked her what happened to her and the child told her she had been raped at gunpoint.
“While the mother of the victim was preparing to take her to the doctor, the suspect arrived and the 12-year-old pointed him out,” said Munyai.
Munyai said the police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect.
He was taken to Jeppe SAPS and charged with rape and detained.
“He appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed for further investigations while he remained in custody,” he said.
