Use of lasers around the airport causes concern

Community members have been warned against using lasers in and around the airport.

Community members have been warned against using lasers in and around the airport.

Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, said the use of lasers in and around the airport is prohibited.

“This is a criminal offence and perpetrators will be will be charged with tampering with aeroplanes,” said Tsotsotso.

Tsotsots said the SAPS was instructed by the national police department to send a warning to communities against using lasers as that has created problems for aeroplanes.

“We were instructed by the national office because they have received complaints from the South African Airways (SAA) and Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) that lasers were being used around airports and that interferes with the aeroplane systems,” said Tsotsotso.
