Hard work, passion, faith and dedication are the driving force behind Jeppe High School for Girls learner Mishka Moodley.
Moodley (17) was recently announced as a finalist in the Mr and Miss Jacaranda Show Model and Arts 2017.
“When I discovered the Jacaranda show I saw it was not an ordinary competition but a platform to empower the youth. I wanted to take the journey to develop myself and grow as a leader while I also get the opportunity to enhance my modelling skills,” said Moodley.
The young beauty only started modelling last year and has entered two competitions with Mr and Miss Jacaranda Show Model being her third.

She said: “I wanted to explore the modelling industry and entering these competitions has been a learning experience for me. Making it to the top five in a competition for Cansa at Silverstar Casino was a motivation.”
The Jeppe girl said she wants to use this opportunity to touch lives and make a difference.
“I’m passionate about motivating others. I want to be a leader in following dreams and not allowing doubt to destroy dreams. Through this I can grow my confidence and also inspire other young girls like me to follow their dreams,” she said.
The show teaches the girls entrepreneurial skills, life skills and the importance of working with charities within their respective communities.
“The competition to me is not all about winning the crown. It is about self-discovery and personal growth while changing lives,” said Moodley.
The girls have to raise money to cover the cost of their entry which is R2 700 by the end of August.
“We have to raise this money ourselves as it’s part of us learning to be independent and not having to be spoon-fed by our parents.”
To raise her money she has started an initiative called ‘Paw out your heart’. She makes beads bracelets and sells them.
“The bracelets are R10 and come in different sizes. I appeal to the public to support my good cause as part of the profit I make from selling the bracelets will go to charity. Businesses can also support me. I would appreciate it,” she continued.
She said she has learnt a lot from this journey and is grateful for all the support she has received from friends and family.
“I thank my mother for being my number one supporter and helping me. I also thank the people who have been buying my bracelets.”
She said the journey has taught her to be humble.
People can also support her by voting. Simply SMS her name Mishka Moodley to 35959.
The grand finale will be held at Victory Life Church in Pretoria on September 23.
