EMM comments on pollution

"The city is not aware of any pollution into the Horwood’s Farm dam."

In September Councillor Heather Hart, ward 18, raised concerns about pollution of Horwood’s Farm’s dam

The NEWS reported on September 6 that Hart had said that industrial pollutants and sewerage had caused the water quality of the dam to deteriorate.

The City of Ekurhuleni has since commented that it is not aware of any pollution of the dam.

“Regular sampling is done by the water quality division and they act on any matter requiring intervention, including sewage spillages,” said the city’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe.

“On a monthly basis the city samples water from storm-water channels flowing towards the dam to identify sewage pollution.”

Gadebe said if industrial pollutants are found in the water, investigations take place to identify the source of the pollution and the necessary action taken.
