Over 6 000 crimes reported to Jeppe SAPS

The stats for the period between April 2016 and March 2017 also showed a 36.2 per cent increase in robberies at non-residential premises.

According to the National SAPS crime stats, Jeppe precinct showed an increase in murder, sexual offences, car hijacking and theft out of motor vehicle.

When compared to the stats for April 2015 to March 2016, the latest stats show a 10 per cent increase in murder cases from 80 to 88.

There was also an 11.5 per cent increase in sexual offences and a 13.9 per cent increase in attempted murder cases.

The stats for the period between April 2016 and March 2017 also showed a 36.2 per cent increase in robberies at non-residential premises.

Crimes which showed a decrease were common assaults, malicious damage to property and commercial crimes.

71 arrests were made for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and 125 for drug-related crimes.

199 people were also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
