Suspects arrested for possession of cellphone tower batteries

Munyai said police gave chase and apprehended them.

Jeppe SAPS arrested four men for possession of stolen property on Simmons Street in Doornfontein on November 7.

Spokesperson for the station, Captain Richard Munyai, said police received a tip-off about the four men selling MTN cellphone tower batteries in Doornfontein.

“Police kept observation and spotted a black Audi Q7 and a white Hyundai bakkie. The cars stopped and they approached a person with an offer to sell the batteries to him.

“Police approached the men and asked to search the bakkie.

“The suspects got out of the cars and ran away,” he said.

Munyai said police gave chase and apprehended them.

“The suspects together with the stolen goods and the cars were taken to Jeppe SAPS and the men were detained. MTN staff was informed and employees positively identified the batteries as the company’s property,” he said.
