WATCH: Employees at Pick n Pay Longmeadow down tools

Employees at the Pick n Pay distribution centre in Longmeadow downed tools this morning as part of a planned strike.

According to those involved, the strike was a result of unsuccessful negotiations held previously.

Among the demands set out by employees are the following:

  •  An end to strong racial language
  •  Racism
  •  An end to labour brokers
  •  Permanent jobs
  •  Normal working hours
  •  Salaries

The NEWS was on site this morning before representatives of the employees entered a meeting with management.

UPDATE

Negotiations are still ongoing. Representatives for the employees have been asked to continue talks after 2pm.

The NEWS awaits comment from Pick n Pay.
