This comes after Jeppe SAPS arrested three suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms in separate incidents. Spokesperson Captain Richard Munyai said police officers received a backup call from one of their colleagues at Commissioner Street in Jeppestown on February 27.
“Officers proceeded to the address and on their arrival, they saw two men who ran in different directions. Officers gave chase and one suspect was armed and he started to shoot at the police.

“Officers returned fire and then managed to arrest the man. The second suspect who fled in a different direction was also arrested,” he said.
Munyai said officers called an ambulance and took the suspect who was injured to the hospital.
“The injured suspect was in hospital under police guard while the other suspect was detained at the police station. Both suspects, age 33 and 38 years, will appear in court soon,” he said.
On the same day, a 26-year-old man was arrested at the corner of Kasteel and Concession streets in Jeppestown.
He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He was also arrested and taken to Jeppe SAPS where he was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and detained.
