Bedfordview CPF: Red vests issued to parking attendants

This system has been utilised with the Knysna CPF said Henry, where they can also check the parking attendants’ criminal record.

Bedfordview Community Police Forum (BCPF) chairperson Gavin Henry said they have issued a red vest.

This red vest will verify each parking attendant with a name tag.

This system has been utilised with the Knysna CPF said Henry, where they can also check the parking attendants’ criminal record.

If the parking attendant has no record they will be given a red vest.

They also have a code of conduct which is similar to the BCPF patroller’s code of conduct.

This code of conduct includes no drinking on the job and also to keep the surrounding area clean.

If car attendants transgress, they will be given three warnings until dismissal.

They will continue a monitoring system to ensure proactive parking attendants are in rotation.

“This will also encourage the community to only tip car guards with a red vest and a name tag,” said Henry.

The BCPF have begun a vetting process in the area outside of the Bedfordview Police Station, with 10 vests available.

Henry said that the BCPF is stretched thin and hopes for community involvement from restaurants or any other business close to a parking area.
