Jeppe SAPS uplift youngsters

JOBURG – It is our responsibility as adults to make sure that our children are safe.

Jeppe SAPS visited Skatestein Skating School in Doornfontein to commemorate National Child Protection Week on June 1.

Spokesperson for the station, Capt Richard Munyayi, said the station, through its social crime prevention unit, aimed to make a difference in the lives of youngsters within the policing precinct.

“It is our responsibility as adults to make sure that our children are safe. It is easy for children to open up to us if they trust us,” he said.

Munyayi encouraged parents to build trust between themselves and their children.

“Youngsters should be able to open up about anything to their parents. If an incident of sexual assault occurs, youngsters must know that they can tell their parents without the fear of being judged,” he said.

National Child Protection Week is marked annually to raise awareness for the rights of children.

It aims to mobilise all sectors of society to care for and protect children.
