Ayanda in Beauty and Beast as Madame de la Grande Bouche

Ayanda Sibisi from Jeppestown is showcasing her talent in the Beauty and the Beast Junior at the People’s Theatre from October 29 to December 23.

Ayanda will be playing Madame de la Grande Bouche.

The EXPRESS had a chat with Ayanda about the larger than life wardrobe of Madame de la Grande Bouche.

“I am flattered really to be playing this character. She is outspoken and flamboyant with a touch of class,” said Ayanda.

This is not the first time she will be playing the role.

“At the age of 25 years, I was cast for the same role. It was on a Broadway scale and I was in disbelief, honestly.

“This happened back home under the direction of the exceptional Steven Stead. I was just getting my foot into the industry and upon offering me the role, he got me started with classical training at a reputed vocal training studio for about eight months to prepare for the role.

“So I feel like I’ve come full circle with this role,” shared Ayanda.

She said the role opened doors for her to another big role like Rafiki in The Lion King and recently the church lady in the Color Purple.

We asked her how she has added her special touch to a role in this classic story.

“My special touch to the role was just being true to this classic tale. I delivered a performance that was satisfying enough for the directors to hire me.

“I auditioned with the classical tune from Cinderella the Musical, the song Impossible.

“That song was sung by the Fairy Godmother in the play,” shared Ayanda.

She said people should expect nothing but the best.

“The casting is definitely the best. The child actors are present and are ready to help where they can.

“The audience will feast themselves on the amazing music and amazing costumes,” said Ayanda.
