SAPS and community work together to fight crime

The aim of the programme is to get the community involved in crime prevention.

Yeoville SAPS management visited the Passion of Kingdom, Jesus Ministries in Rockey Street on February 4 to encourage the community to get involved in crime prevention.

“This visit was part of the divine intervention programme launched in September last year,” said station commander Col Phetole Mahasha.

“We visit schools, churches, taxi ranks, shopping malls, liquor outlets and other community groups to address issues relating to crime.

“The church has an important role to play in the community. Our relationship with churches is important and through this programme, we have another avenue to fight crime,” Mahasaha said.

“We all need to support one another because the police cannot fight crime without the help from the community, and the congregation is part of the community,” said Mahasha.

Pastor Robinson responded to the call to support Yeoville police in crime prevention.

The church vowed to assist the police.

“We will be the eyes and ears of the police in order to watch over the community,” commented Robinson.

Yeoville SAPS spokesperson Sfiso Mabizela said police officers will be conducting a number of visits in weeks to come.

“We will also visit St Aidan’s Anglican Church on Regent Street. We urged the community to support the police and join us in this programme because crime affects everyone,” said Mabizela.
