Three men were arrested at Eastgate Shopping Centre on April 19, after a shootout with police officers.
Officers also recovered two unlicensed firearms.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubela said the shoot-out took place after offers from the Johannesburg Flying Squad responded to a vehicle lookout following a failed robbery at a shop.
“The officers spotted the vehicle on Van Buuren Road and gave chase. When officers requested that the occupants of the vehicle pull over the men opened fire at the officers. The officers returned fire. The men then drove into Eastgate Shopping Centre parking area where they were cornered by the SAPS and arrested,” said Makhubela.
He said the arrested suspects will appear in Germiston Magistrate’s Court on April 22.
