Online booking system to ease licensing office services in future

He said that all other centres in Ekurhuleni are doing the same until they are fully online.

The Bedfordview Licensing Department issued a notice in May which stated the department will only process online bookings on certain days of the week, which raised questions by the community.

The metro has since responded that the reason for this decision by the department was due to a high number of applications for licences and renewals.

The notice stated that the licensing department will process online bookings for driver’s licence renewals on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays only.

It further stated that walk-ins and online bookings will be processed on Thursdays and Fridays.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said it is due to the department being under-resourced.

“They have refused volunteer assistance from the community and no additional staff have been assigned to assist, despite numerous requests,” said Humphreys.

Themba Gadebe, City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson, said the Gauteng Department of Road and Transport launched an online booking system for applications of learner’s and driver’s licences and renewal of driver’s licence to ease congestion at the centres.

“The City of Ekurhuleni was given extra time to go fully online. In terms of our plans, which we compiled with the provincial department, we will gradually go online,” said Gadebe.

He said all other centres in Ekurhuleni are doing the same until they are fully online.
