Kensington Scouts take part in 24th World Scout Jamboree Scout Mondial
"Scouting aims to develop our youth into responsible citizens and useful members of society."
Scouts from 1st Kengray Scout Group, based in Kensington, recently joined more than 100 others as part of a Scouts South Africa contingent participating at the 24th World Scout Jamboree Scout Mondial.

The event was hosted at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA, from July 22 to August 2, and formed part of the global movement’s quadrennial celebrations.
1st Kengray’s Christopher Park, Jonathan Diessel, Sabastian Cruz and Ewen McAlpine, along with the rest of the South African group, were among a 45 000-strong group of Scouts and adults from 152 countries around the world.

The three Scouts, Christopher, Jonathan and Sabastian, and their Scouter Ewen, all had the opportunity to participate in activities such as mountain biking, zip lining, skateboarding, scuba diving and rock climbing, among a host of other things.
In addition, they interacted with Scouts from around the world and in the process of doing so, struck up some lifelong friendships.
For many of the Scouts, it was their first time travelling overseas and they took the opportunity to take in the sights of New York City and Washington DC.
“Scouting aims to develop our youth into responsible citizens and useful members of society, and to this end a World Jamboree offers Scouts the opportunity to interact with youth from around the world in order to develop them into global citizens,” said McAlpine.
The next World Scout Jamboree Scout Mondial will be held in Saemangeum, South Korea, in 2023.
