Driver airlifted to hospital after collision into tree

A man was airlifted to hospital after colliding into a tree on James Street, Sandringham on September 20.
Netcare 911 media liaison officer Shawn Herbst said the man was driving a light motor vehicle and lost control and crashed into a tree.
“Medics assessed the 21-year-old patient and found he had sustained serious injuries,” said Herbst.
He said the man was trapped and the Fire and Rescue Services had to use Jaws of Life to free him from the wreckage.
“The man was treated on scene by Netcare 911 and Hatzolah Ambulance Services and required advanced life support to stabilise him,” said Herbst.
He said a Netcare 2 helicopter was called to airlift the man to hospital for further treatment due to serious injuries.
