No case opened after explosives found at Bedfordview Licensing Department

Capt André de Jager said the explosives were found in the Bedfordview Licensing Department main safe.

No case has been opened at Bedfordview SAPS after explosives were found at the Bedfordview Licensing Department on February 14.

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Capt André de Jager said no foul play is suspected and they are unaware of who placed the explosives in the safe.

He said Bedfordview SAPS was alerted about the explosives after an employee found the explosives wrapped in a packet while cleaning the safe.

De Jager said the SAPS Explosives Unit was called in and the area was cordoned off during the assessment of the explosives.

The items were found to be two live smoke grenades, six live R4 rounds, and one live 20mm bullet.

“The explosives seemed to have been there for some time and have been booked in at Bedfordview SAPS,” said de Jager.
