Alexis remains hopeful
Following her selection to represent South Africa at the Junior World Series, which was planned to take place in July this year, Alexis was excited about the experience that lay ahead.
2020 was set to be a landmark year for Alexis Kleiner, a Grade Seven learner at Saheti School.
It held the promise of participation at an international level in her beloved sport, indoor netball. Following her selection to represent South Africa at the Junior World Series, which was planned to take place in July this year, Alexis was excited about the experience that lay ahead.
What made the prospect even more special was that she would share the experience with one of her teammates who was also selected.
The dream moved closer to reality with the invitation in January from the hosts, Indoor Netball New Zealand and the World Indoor Netball Association, which would see Alexis competing in the u-13 girls’ event.
However, all the planning came to an abrupt halt with the Covid-19 pandemic, and sadly the event was postponed to next year.

“I was very disappointed, especially as there will be new trials to select the national team for next year,” said Alexis.
She remains positive and committed to her sport.
“During lockdown I’ve been swimming, running and doing strength exercises to keep my fitness levels up.”
She has not given up on her dream of competing on the world stage and in the meantime, her SA colours are a proud reminder of the recognition she has earned and the further opportunities that await.
Kelly Breckle, Saheti Primary School head netball coach, who also represented South Africa as a coach in 2018 for the u19 indoor netball squad, attests to Alexis’ determination, natural ability and passion for the game.
“I am so proud of her attitude towards improving every facet of her game and she deserves this accolade as one of our rising stars at Saheti.”
