During her visit Thandeka relayed stories about her late father and her overall message to learners was clear and simple:
• Strive to do small acts of kindness consistently.
• Sometimes you need to block your ears if you want to succeed.
• Each of us has a special place in this world and each of us matters.
• Use the opportunities given to you for a great education.
• Read as much as you can.
Thandeka is also the head of the Desmond Tutu TutuDesk Campaign.
The campaign aims to donate mobile desks to children throughout Sub Saharan Africa, a region where over 95 million school children don’t have the benefit of a classroom desk.
On February 2 Holy Rosary School held a Tutu Day in celebration of the late Archbishop.
On the day learners were encouraged to wear rainbow-coloured civvies and tutus.
Staff and students were asked to make a donation, where all money collected will be donated to the TutuDesk Campaign.
