Ekurhuleni finalises new lease process for Gillooly’s Farm

The City has revealed that its Real Estate Department is in a process of finalising occupation of the new leases at Gillooly’s Farm.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, the Real Estate Department is in the process of finalising the occupation of the new leases at Gillooly’s Farm.

This was in response to questions asked based on the article Gillooly’s Farm in need of makeover, published by the Bedfordview Edenvale News on April 8.

City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the two facilities, a former restaurant and conference hall, were previously leased out, and both leases have expired.

He added that the non-existence of leases for these facilities has made them prone to vandalism. He also said they may create an unsafe environment and the possibility of illegal occupancy.

Dlamini said formal proposals to develop the farm’s facilities were received, and the type of businesses and activities suitable for the facility will be determined by the current Real Estate process that is underway.

Dlamini said that leasing the spaces in the farm will contribute meaningfully to the City’s revenue.
He said monitoring of the farm is carried out through routine inspections.

“The City continues to maintain Gillooly’s Farm and public spaces according to the scheduled horticultural maintenance program in line with available resources.”

He, however, pointed out that budgetary constraints and insufficient personnel impact progress on maintenance and repairs.

Dlamini said the safety of visitors can be improved by adding more security personnel both at the main gate and within the park itself.
