Two unlicensed firearms and two vehicles were also recovered.

The arrests, which resulted in the arrest of an Edenvale man, were carried out between June 26 and 27.

According to the flying squad’s communications officer Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the Edenvale suspect was arrested for the alleged involvement in a rape case.

“Flying squad members were stopped by a community member who pointed out the suspect. He was allegedly involved in a rape case reported in March.”

Giblin said in a separate incident, one suspect was arrested in Tembisa’s Emoyeni Section for assault.

While working in partnership with Brakpan SAPS Trio Task Team, the flying squad’s Sergeant Jaco Powell and Constable Juan-Mare Eksteen followed up on crime intelligence on June 27.

The officers were seeking a wanted suspect who resided on a plot located on Main Reef Road, Brakpan.

“The suspect was not traced but a search of the premises led to the recovery of an AK47 rifle with one magazine containing 29 live rounds of ammunition and a 5.56 calibre hunting rifle with one magazine containing 20 live rounds of ammunition,” said Giblin.

“Two suspects were arrested in connection with these unlicensed firearms.”

During further policing, two vehicles were recovered – a white Toyota Quantum in Crystal Park and a white Isuzu bakkie in Thembisa.

Giblin said the Quantum was bought through a fraudulent transaction and is related to a Midrand case while the Isuzu was reported hijacked and connected to a Thembisa south case.

He said investigations into all cases are ongoing.
