Law enforcement units combat crime in joint operation
SAPS and other agencies embarked on a crime operation which was successful after arrests and recoveries were made.

The collaborative efforts of SAPS, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Home Affairs, CPF, and other stakeholders have once again yielded positive results in the Ekurhuleni District.
This follows a significant reduction in crime levels during Operations Shanela, conducted at police stations across the Ekurhuleni District from January 8 to January 9.

A total of 251 suspects were arrested for various offences during the operations.

In Kempton Park, under the leadership of deputy district commissioner Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, law enforcement agencies achieved notable successes.
They closed four illegal liquor outlets and three non-compliant spaza shops, issued 31 traffic fines amounting to R9 600, impounded 10 taxis operating between Kempton Park and Benoni, and arrested a suspect for drug possession. They also arrested 21 undocumented immigrants.

Simultaneously, an imbizo was held at the Kaalfontein informal settlement in Kempton Park to address crime-related issues affecting the community.
During the event, local police shared contact details to strengthen collaboration with residents.

Additionally, detective operations conducted between the afternoon of January 8 and the morning of January 9 resulted in the arrest of 222 suspects.

These included 125 arrests for contact crimes, 27 for property crimes, 17 for contact-related crimes, 36 for other serious crimes, and 38 for gender-based violence offences.
Crime Intelligence officers operating in Kempton Park arrested three individuals for drug-related offences, two for dealing in drugs and one for possession of drugs.
Machakela praised the unwavering efforts of law enforcement teams in combating crime during and after the festive season.

“As the SAPS, we want Ekurhuleni residents to know that we are intensifying our efforts to ensure their safety.
“We are committed to increasing our visibility in communities,” said Machakela.
“I have urged our members to approach the new year with renewed energy, tackle crime head-on, and ensure our communities feel secure and free.”
