Law enforcement teams tackle crime in Edenvale
A strong show of unity in Edenvale saw multiple law enforcement agencies join forces in a high-impact operation to combat crime, close non-compliant shops, and restore public confidence.
Law enforcement officers descended on Edenvale during a multi-agency crime prevention operation on June 4.
Led by Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi, the station commander of the Springs Police Station, the operation included members of SAPS, the EMPD, the TMPD, the Gauteng Traffic Police, the Department of Home Affairs and local security companies.
Officers gathered before dawn to prepare for the co-ordinated effort to tackle crime and enforce the law.

According to Buthelezi, the operation was successful, with officers making notable inroads into crime in the area. He said key concerns in Edenvale included residential robberies and theft out of motor vehicles.
The Edenvale deployment was part of a larger provincial initiative led by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and the Gauteng Government, which extended to Tembisa, Ivory Park and Kempton Park.
In Edenvale, the strategy followed a multipronged approach. Teams were assigned to various focuses, including roadblocks, narcotics, liquor compliance and inspections of spaza shops.

Numerous arrests were made throughout the day. These included people found with drugs and illegal cigarettes and several undocumented foreign nationals.

Authorities also issued thousands of rands worth of traffic fines and shut several spaza shops for non-compliance.
Edenvale CPF chairperson Sheryl Damerell welcomed the high visibility of law enforcement.

“It was encouraging to see all the various stakeholders working together,” she said.
“The town was saturated with law enforcement, and that kind of presence goes a long way in making a real difference.”
