Gas cylinders, stolen property and traffic fines in Bedfordview SAPS crackdown

The multi-agency operation also saw roadblocks, vehicle searches, and hotspot patrols across the precinct.

The discovery of 32 gas cylinders illegally stored in a residential shack was the highlight of a recent multi-faceted police operation led by Bedfordview SAPS.

Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lillian Modiga said, “Our members, working alongside traffic wardens, acted on a tip-off regarding gas cylinders allegedly stored unlawfully in Elandsfontein.

“Upon arrival at the premises, we found 32 gas cylinders inside a shack. The individual present could not provide any documentation or certification permitting the storage of such explosive items in a residential area.”

The operation, which concluded at 16:30 on 13 June, involved a comprehensive series of law enforcement activities aimed at improving public safety across the station’s precinct and surrounding areas.

Highlights of the operation included a roadblock, 125 vehicles searched and 231 individuals searched.

High-visibility visits were conducted at hotspot areas such as ATMs, shopping centres, filling stations, taxi ranks, a school and a railway station.

One suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. One J534 fine was issued for drinking in public, and two J534 fines were issued for driving without a licence.

Total fines issued amounted to R1 100.

The operation was led by the Vispol commander, Captain Thabo Mokoena.
