EMPD impounds vehicles in crackdown on illegal mechanics

The EMPD seized eight vehicles and multiple toolkits in a co-ordinated operation, clamping down on illegal mechanical work disrupting local neighbourhoods.

The EMPD intensified efforts to clamp down on illegal mechanics operating in residential areas and on public roads.

On July 12, officers from the EMPD’s By-Law and Compliance Unit, along with the Truck Towing Unit, carried out a targeted operation across Boksburg, Katlehong and Germiston.

This action followed repeated complaints from concerned community members about mechanics doing business in public spaces and disrupting the safety and cleanliness of neighbourhoods. Despite previous warnings, many of them continued to operate unlawfully.
