10 officers arrested in Edenvale on theft and corruption charges

Ekurhuleni Metro and SAPS members accused of failing to book confiscated items into police evidence

Ten police officers were arrested earlier today in Edenvale on charges relating to theft and corruption.

According to Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the arrests were carried out by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) at Edenvale Police Station on 4 August.

National media reports suggest that six of those arrested are Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officers, while the remaining four are SAPS members stationed at Tsakane Police Station.

The group allegedly failed to log confiscated goods into official police records, prompting the investigation.

Attempts to reach IPID and its spokesperson for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
